What made you decide to establish That Special Occasion?
This has always been my ambition, and it was really a blessing for me to meet my business partner, Kris Wong, when we were both in design school. It was a bonus to discover that Kris shared the same passion as well, and the rest as they say is history.

How long have you been in business?
We started in 2000, so that will be 6 years.

Tell us a little bit about the services you offer.
Our boutique offers bespoke gowns as well as off-the-rack pieces. Aside from bridal wear, we also specialise in evening gowns, cocktail dresses, bridesmaids' outfits and prom dresses. Ours is a very personalised setup as in our client will be in constant contact with us, from the day the order is taken right down to the delivery of the gown. We also have a rental and a "buy-back" service for our bridal gowns. Under the "buy-back" service, clients will be given the option to order a gown to their preferred design and to their measurements and thereafter, sell it back to us after the wedding.

Who are your target clientele?
Ladies and teenagers who want to look good and who care about how they look.

Some brides like to bring their mothers or friends along in the search for gowns. Is this advisable?

That all depends on the bride really. As not everyone has the same style and taste, there will be conflicting input from everyone and that may cause unnecessary stress for the bride. When too many people are involved, ultimately the bride will be at the losing end, because the final product is never what she has in mind, rather what pleases others. Most importantly, trust your designer as they will want you to look good.
