Tell us a little about what you did before becoming a wedding planner.
I was in the advertising industry and was working abroad in countries like Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam.

Why the switch in career?
Well it isn't really a total switch as event management is very much a part of what I used to do in advertising. It's just that I now organise events.

How long have you been involved in wedding planning?
This would be the third year running.

What are some of the highs and lows associated with being a wedding planner?
The highs of course would be when whatever you have envisioned for the wedding turns out exactly as that, if not better. The lows would be having to deal with clients who are unrealistic in terms of expectations and expect us wedding planners to perform miracles.

There is a misperception that it costs quite a bit to hire a wedding planner. How do you respond to such a perception?
Most vendors would be willing to give a wedding planner a good price simply because we are working with them on a longer term and therefore have volume. In this instance, we are definitely able to save a lot of money for our clients. Taken in totality, they could probably save even after having taken into account the fee we charge them. The clients would have saved on time and stress too.

Do share with us one of the more memorable weddings you've planned.
This is a hard one so I am going to name two. The two most memorable weddings would be Sherry and Hisham Harun's wedding, and we only finished at 5am and then had to rush to the airport to catch a flight to attend to the second most memorable wedding which is the Cambodian wedding we did for Ashley and Dougald. Both couples really made the experience worthwhile for us as they had an understanding of how to use a wedding planner, that is by listening to our ideas and placing complete trust in us.
