What
made you decide to start the Flower Cottage?
Being
too long in the corporate world, working with
flowers made a very refreshing change.
When
did business commence?
We
had a modest start in a house in Jalan Stonor,
Kuala Lumpur in 1997.
What
were you doing previously prior to running your
own company?
All sorts, such as working with a TV programme
distributor as well as an IT networking multinational
company too.
Weddings
obviously make up a good part of your business
revenue. How do you compare it with the other
services you offer?
Very rewarding in all ways, especially when
you see the smiles on your clients' faces. However,
this type of reward comes seasonally, usually
during the second half of the year.
What
is your 'signature' in terms of wedding flowers?
English country style which can be described
in one word - romantic. We use roses, gerberas
and lilies with a tinge of orchids mainly.
What
would one expect to spend on flowers, let's say
for a simple fuss-free wedding to a fairly extravagant
one?
Between
RM700 and RM6000.
Tell
us about one of the more memorable weddings you've
done.
Recently,
there was this 'white wedding' at Carcosa Seri
Negara in Kuala Lumpur, where the bride requested
for gold fish in a fish bowl, propped up on a
custom-made metal stand for the table centrepieces.
The entire venue was decorated with lots and lots
of white roses. It was truly a beautiful wedding.
Who
were some of the other service providers you worked
with for the abovementioned wedding?
Alison of Alison Smith Chan's Cakes and Kid Chan of PortraitOne.
