Are wedding videos a necessity or luxury? Many couples have in the last few years debated this issue. Regardless of whichever side one leans towards though, wedding videography is here to stay. Sure, photographs are an important means of documenting various points in time during the wedding but it is the video that is able to seamlessly capture the unfolding of the day's events.

It is fair to say however, that videography is very often not at the top of many a couple's list of priorities. Nevertheless, it is certainly worthwhile to seriously consider hiring a professional videography team with a creative eye and directorial flair. Instead of run-of-the-mill videos of the past, many industry professionals now offer stylised versions, very much like an artistic movie that will not be painful to sit through post wedding!

Budgets, technical equipment and videography styles aside, one of the most important issues to raise during preliminary discussions is the duration required for the wedding video to be completed after the wedding. Be sure to have a delivery date included in any booking form or contract to ensure that your video is delivered promptly. This is not to say that you should rush the videographers (as rush jobs are almost never satisfactory) but rather to commit them to a reasonable delivery timeframe.

When briefing your videographers :
  • Make it known to them who your immediate family members, relatives and close friends are to ensure that they are captured on film.

  • Provide them with a detailed schedule of the day's events so that they will know what to expect and not be caught off-guard.

  • Introduce them to your photographers in order for them to complement one another and not compete with each other for positions.

Tip : Make it a point to discuss items like equipment, music and editing styles with your chosen videographers.
