The dynamic growth of wedding photography practitioners is indeed a huge benefit for forthcoming brides and grooms. Established industry players now share the market with a proliferation of new emerging talents, some full time, others freelancers. The boom in the wedding photography scene also means that clients now have an even larger array of packages to choose from. The enhanced flexibility in allocating budgets augurs well for couples as almost every budget can be catered to.

Perhaps one of the most important things to bear in mind is that 'photographic style and quality' should be the foremost criteria in selecting a wedding photographer. Having said this, one should also take note that 'more expensive is not always better' as it really all depends on whether you like the photographer's work and if there is the required 'chemistry' between you and the photographer to ensure a comfortable 'photographer-subject' relationship.

Some issues to take into account :
  • Does the photographer have a good track record?

  • Is the photographer accommodating or rigid when it comes to adapting packages to suit your specific requirements?

  • Have a look at a complete wedding album instead of a compilation of selected 'good' shots from a few weddings.

  • Some smaller practitioners and freelancers can do just as good a job as established names.

  • Established industry players will have had more experience covering a variety of weddings.

  • Be very sure of what's included in the packages offered and the relevant terms and conditions that apply.

  • Consider the various options photographers are now offering in terms of album design.

  • Negotiate and get a commitment on the time-frame required for the photographer to deliver photos.
