Recent times have seen the proliferation of bridal studios, specialty boutiques and designers, who in their own respective ways are catering to various segments of the wedding gown market. Generally, brides-to-be will have a number of options open to them.

  • Rent a ready-made gown with alterations done to fit her size. This could either be a brand new gown or one which has already been worn by others beforehand.

  • Have a gown custom-made to her size and design requirements on a rental basis i.e. the gown can be returned after the wedding. This would ensure that the gown is new.

  • Have a gown custom-made to her size and design requirements on a purchase basis i.e. there is no return option after the wedding. Again, this will be a brand new gown which will be a keepsake for the bride.

  • Purchase a ready-made gown off-the-rack. This again could either be a new gown or one which has been worn before.

When visiting bridal studios, specialty boutiques and designers, it is advisable to get as much information as possible on the various options available, particularly when it comes to pricing and return policies. Some will be of a 'one-stop' nature, where almost all aspects relating to wedding garments, hair, makeup, flowers and photography are included in their packages offered, whilst others may be of a more specialised nature, concentrating only on bridal and evening gowns perhaps.

Tip : Custom-made gowns are definitely a better fit, and also allow the incorporation of the bride's preferred design elements into the outfit. It may cost a little more, but what one gets at the end of the process is an exclusive one-of-a-kind gown.
