| For
many brides-to-be, the bridal gown is perhaps
first and foremost the most important element
of the wedding. More often than not, choosing
the bridal gown is the first item on the long
list of things-to-do. One explanation for this
could be the fact that as little girls, many would
have fantasised about their dream wedding gown,
the ideal dress that would make them feel like
a princess, so to speak, on their wedding day.
The effort put in then, in search of the perfect
gown, is a concerted one. |

| It is not surprising
to hear of ladies scurrying from one end of town
to the other, visiting bridal studios, specialty
boutiques and designers, taking their pick and
trying on the various wedding gowns available,
all in the name of finding that one special gown
that will fulfil their cherished dream of being
the centre of attention on their wedding day.
Whilst the journey towards selecting the bridal
gown is one that is exciting in many ways, it
can also be one that is excruciatingly frustrating.
Exciting because of the anticipation, the adrenalin
rush when one comes across designs that flatter,
and the nervous apprehension come time for fitting
the gown. Frustration on the other hand arises
when one is indecisive as the many, many gowns
of varying designs can be overwhelming. Naturally,
the well-meaning but unsolicited advice and comments
of family members, relatives and friends will
also add to the stress. What is important to realise
however, is that at the end, after a few tiny
trials and perhaps tribulations, you will see
yourself in the mirror, on the morning of your
wedding day, looking as radiant a bride as you
have ever imagined. |

Some pointers
.
- Do some research
by flipping through magazines and surfing
the internet to identify design elements that
you like, before visiting the shops. This
will save you time as it allows you to 'zoom
in' on the gowns that will fulfil some of
your criteria.
- Whether to go it
alone or to bring a friend along is really
a personal preference. Some like to be able
to make the decision on their own while others
fancy an extra pair of eyes. Just remember
that no matter what, it is you who will be
wearing the gown on that special day, and
therefore, you must be happy with your selection,
regardless of what some others might think.
- Have a budget in
mind. No point having discussions with a high-end
designer when you can't afford it. With a
budget as a point of reference, you will be
able to narrow down the options vis-à-vis
bridal studios, specialty boutiques and designers.
- Always try on different
gowns to have a comparison. You will never
know how you look until you put it on.
- Once you have made
a selection, it is best to refrain from looking
at other designs. Otherwise, you may end up
making changes from time to time, creating
a vicious cycle of a never-ending story.
- Finally, place your
trust on the service provider you have selected.
They are the experts and will definitely endeavour
to make you look your best.

Tip : Trust your instincts. Often,
the very first gown that catches your eye is
the one that you will eventually choose.
