Diamonds are a girl's best friend. This truly explains why men go the extra mile in search of the perfect diamond for their future wives. Be it in the form of an engagement ring, a pendant or perhaps a pair of earrings, one is certainly faced with a dazzling array of choices. As such, it is best to arm yourself with adequate knowledge of this extremely precious stone in order to make the best selection possible. Essentially, the value of a diamond is dependent on the 4Cs - cut, carat, colour and clarity.

The cut of a diamond is the most important of the 4Cs as the precision with which each facet is cut on the diamond determines the amount of light that is reflected back to the eye.

The size and weight of a diamond is measured in carats. Rarity correlates with the size of the stone. The larger the stone, the more expensive.

The colour of a diamond can range from colourless to light yellow, with the former being the most rare and therefore most valuable.

The clarity of a diamond refers to the tiny natural marks called inclusions that are present in the diamond. Expect to pay top dollar for a flawless clarity grading.

Now that you know the basics and with a little helping hand from professional jewellers, the task of locating that perfect symbolism of love may not be that daunting after all. Of the many options available in the market, one that has been making an impact among urbanites is The Love Diamond. As its name suggests, it is truly an expression of love. Those who have had the pleasure of receiving this solitaire are immediately besotted by its brilliance, with a likeness of "the fire of a thousand tiny suns".  Almost flawless and perfect in its clarity, The Love Diamond has earned the reputation for being so precisely cut that each of its 58 facets is matched and aligned in perfect harmony. The symbol of love is revealed through eight perfectly symmetrical hearts and arrows, radiating from within. It is the combination of these characteristics that make The Love Diamond the magnificent dazzler that it is.
