Beauty And The Bride

Brides have an uncanny way of looking stunning on their wedding day. Be it the glow of love or the subtle shimmer dust, they positively radiate! But behind that ethereal aura lies freshly quelled panic over makeup mishaps.

The last thing any bride wants is for guests to take home memories of her hideous orange eye shadow or gaudy glittering nails. So to save yourself from being haunted by such memories, consider these strategies.

Be A Copycat : Study the looks of eternal beauties like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly. These timeless screen beauties understood the essence of beauty and you would do well to learn a few tricks from them. Start by surfing the web or flipping through magazines for photos of women who exhibit the look you want. Zoom into their best features like well-shaped eyebrows or well-defined lips and incorporate that element into your wedding look.

Lay The Foundation : If you've never worn foundation, now's the time to do so. Very few women are blessed with flawless skin and foundation is God's greatest gift to them. Apply a light layer and dust with powder. Bring extra powder with you for touch-ups during the day.

Making Eyes : Your eyes will be the first thing people notice (especially since they're supposed to be brimming with love and tears!), so pay them the most attention and let them lead the way for the rest of the look. But that doesn't mean taking 'dramatic' literally! Steer clear of pink, light blue or frosted shades unless you're keen on the worn-out look. As eyebrows tend to fade in photographs, makeup-artist Bobbi Brown suggests filling them in with a matte eye shadow that matches your hair.

Strike A Balance : Focusing on just the eyes, cheeks or lips will make your face appear unbalanced. Instead, emphasise all three in moderation or focus more on the eyes and lips for a balanced look.

Subdue The Shimmer : Shimmer can masquerade as shine at times and you don't want to look like you're oiled and ready for a bout of Turkish wrestling. Limit shimmer to your lips.

Don't Kiss And Tell : Your day will be filled with smooches, so choose your lippy carefully. There will be moments when you're unable to re-apply you lipstick, but noticeable lipliner is a grave faux pax. Ditch the liner all together if your lipstick is several shades darker than your natural lip colour.

Tip : Be sure to have thorough discussions and trial sessions with potential makeup artists on the look you want to achieve before appointing your final choice.
